About Me

My photo
My name is Melanie. I am a special needs teacher, a best friend, Jesus loving, southern girl. I have been threw many ups and downs. Throughout my journey I have learned that there is nothing God can't do. I'm learning to count my blessings and stay strong during every challenge and storm that comes my way. In the end; life's a dance, you learn as you go.

Christmas fun in the classroom

I would like to say that we have done some FUN stuff in my first grade class. We are not "allowed" to teach about Christmas but I made different holiday activities fit into our individual goals. Check it out!
We sequenced the story If you take a mouse to the movies these were the results. My kids had to work in groups. This takes a lot of practice for first grade but they did sooooo good. They had so much fun! We are going to do more of this very soon!! I also follow a great blog called: First Grade Parade and this lady has the BEST ideas!!!

We did a K-W-L chart on Reindeer. Of course for what they "know" they said great things like they fly, they work for Santa, Rudolf has a red nose. However, we read a true Reindeer non-fiction text and they learned a lot. I made sure to say these Reindeer were separate from Santa's. We don't want to take out the fun of Christmas. The white poster says: can, have, are. Students thought of things that Reindeer can do, what kind of things they have, and what they are.
I LOVE CHRISTMAS TIME!!!!
